VAN LANG GLOBAL SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A LEARNING AND EXPERIENTIAL JOURNEY IN KUALA LUMPUR

From June 8th to 12th, 2026, Cohort 31 students from the Global Partnership Program at Van Lang Global School (VGS) embarked on the Going Global Study Tour 2026 in Malaysia. Centered around the theme “THE STEPS INTO EXCELLENT LEARNING WORLD & TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION DRIVER”, this was far from a conventional extracurricular field trip for the course “Developing Diversity and Cultural Intelligence Skills”. Instead, it served as a practical learning journey that provided students with a first-hand look at Malaysia's rich cultural foundation through its people, art, history, and economy. This unique blend and diversity created distinct stories and cultural perspectives within a single country, fostering innovative thinking while raising student awareness of digital transformation and sustainable development in the new era.

In the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, the academic journey kicked off impressively at Sunway University - a prestigious institution ranked in the TOP 10 in Malaysia, TOP 70 in Asia, and holder of the elite international AACSB accreditation. Upon arrival, the VGS student delegation was thoroughly captivated by the state-of-the-art library, widely regarded as the "heart" of the university. The entire Sunway campus unfolds like a self-contained "mini-city," where all amenities ranging from multi-level educational systems and a hospital to a hotel—are smartly linked via an advanced elevated canopy walk and an internal pathway system utilizing Malaysia's leading technology. Moving beyond their awe of the grand scale, the members had the opportunity to sit down with PhD. Brendan Ch’ng in a workshop titled "Malaysian Culture and Education System", which opened up profound insights and multidimensional perspectives on the beauty of the host country's culture and education.

While Sunway University offered a breath of modernity and convenience, the University of Malaysia (UM), which ranked TOP 1 in Malaysia, TOP 50 Worldwide, and AACSB-accredited welcomed VGS students with the depth of its 120-year history. Here, the campus of the nation's oldest university became a bridge for warm, multidimensional cultural exchanges. Alongside international students, the VGS delegation savored the traditional flavors of Nasi Lemak, hand-painted intricate Batik patterns on fabric, and experienced the unique art of Henna from the Indian community. In addition to these vibrant cultural experiences, the trip delivered profound intellectual value through the workshop "Sustainability at Universiti Malaya", led by Dr. Mohd Fadhli Rahmat Fakri, which inspired green thinking and a responsibility toward sustainable development in the students.

Leaving the academic environment behind, VGS students stepped into a real-world business landscape with a visit to Leave a Nest, a well-known multinational corporation in Malaysia. For a country that places a heavy emphasis on agriculture like Malaysia, this visit yielded invaluable lessons regarding the integration of advanced technology into production. Students witnessed firsthand a cutting-edge aquaculture studio and modern agricultural drones designed to maximize efficiency in plant cultivation. The practical insights shared about operational models and technology projects not only expanded the students' knowledge base but also sparked a global entrepreneurial mindset for their future career paths.

Complementing the engaging academic itinerary, the students' exploration of Kuala Lumpur's famous landmarks felt like a series of vivid movie scenes, allowing them to truly touch the cultural soul of Malaysia. They gazed upon the architectural marvel of the Petronas Twin Towers, the ultimate symbol of the nation's modern growth and prosperity. Following this, a tour of the National Museum took them back in time to explore the country's turbulent historical narrative and the formation of its multi-ethnic society. The journey concluded with a visit to sacred Hindu shrines, helping students gain a deeper appreciation for the unique religious beauty as well as the mutual respect and harmonious coexistence among the different faiths of the local people.

Although the Going Global Study Tour 2026 in Malaysia has come to an end, it has left profound impressions, offering VGS students a comprehensive and highly practical perspective when engaging with a new environment and a diverse culture. This valuable academic knowledge combined with cross-cultural experiences will undoubtedly serve as a solid launching pad, equipping them with the confidence and mettle of global citizens ready to step into an integrated world full of challenges and opportunities.
