VGS Annual Science Fair & Innovation Expo 2027
The flagship annual event showcasing student research projects, scientific experiments, and innovative prototypes. Featuring keynote speakers from leading universities and tech companies across Asia.

Where Young Scientists Shine
The VGS Annual Science Fair & Innovation Expo is the culmination of a year-long journey of scientific inquiry. From September through June, students across all grade levels design, execute, and refine research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors. The Science Fair transforms the entire sports complex into a vibrant exhibition space where over 150 projects compete for recognition and prizes.
What sets the VGS Science Fair apart from typical school science exhibitions is its emphasis on real-world impact. Every project must address a genuine problem and propose a viable solution. Past winning projects have gone on to be presented at national and international science competitions, and several have been developed into actual products and services.
Competition Categories
Life Sciences: Projects exploring biology, medicine, ecology, and environmental science. Recent standout projects include a student-developed rapid water quality testing kit now being piloted by local environmental agencies, and a machine learning model for early detection of plant diseases in Vietnamese rice paddies.
Physical Sciences & Engineering: Projects covering physics, chemistry, materials science, and engineering design. Highlights from previous years include a low-cost prosthetic hand prototype using 3D printing, and a novel approach to noise-cancelling headphone design inspired by the structure of moth wings.

Computer Science & AI: Projects featuring software development, artificial intelligence, data science, and robotics. The fastest-growing category, reflecting student interest in technology careers. Notable entries have included an AI-powered Vietnamese sign language translator and a blockchain-based system for verifying academic credentials.
Keynote Speakers
This year's lineup features three distinguished keynote speakers: Dr. Pham Thi Hong from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, who will discuss "The Next Frontier of Vietnamese Scientific Research"; Professor James Liu from the National University of Singapore, presenting on "AI Ethics for the Next Generation"; and VGS alumna Nguyen Khanh Linh, now a research scientist at Google DeepMind, sharing her journey from high school science fair to cutting-edge AI research.
Judging and Awards
Projects are evaluated by a panel of external judges comprising university professors, industry professionals, and research scientists. Criteria include scientific rigor, innovation, practical applicability, and presentation quality. The grand prize includes a $3,000 USD research grant and an invitation to present at the ASEAN Young Scientists Conference.
Beyond the formal competition, the Innovation Expo component invites partner companies and universities to showcase their own work, creating a dynamic environment where students can explore potential career paths and university programs. It is education in its most inspiring form — where curiosity meets opportunity.
